How not to sweat in summer | How to stay warm in winter | Natural clothing material short overview

The best for your skin is clothing with the highest possible proportion of natural fabrics. Cotton, silk, linen, modal and wool.

Let’s start with cotton.

Cotton is light, very pleasant on the skin. As air passes through it, it absorbs water and gives it off to the air.  No sweat remains on the body and you get a comfortable dry feeling.

Also, cotton prevents harmful microorganisms from multiplying, so there are no unpleasant odors or skin irritations. That’s why you call the fabric „breathable“.

Cotton does not hold on to heat very well, so it’s definitely a fabric for summer.

Silk is luxury

In ancient times only kings and queens would wear silk.

Silk is an animal-based protein fabric. It is produced by silk moth caterpillars, which unfortunately need to be killed during the extraction process.

House dust mites do not like the material, so if you are a person suffering from allergies, silk is perfect for you. Silk is a very soft fabric. Its breathable and insulates against heat and cold. Therefore, it is a good fabric to be worn in summer as well as in winter.

Wool

For cold temperatures, animal fibers, for example, ethically sourced sheep’s wool, are the best choice.

It is an all-natural functional clothing, as it is mostly made of air. Air does not conduct heat and this means that your body temperature is hold inside the clothing.

The same is true in warm environments, here wool is even perceived as cooling.

Wool absorbs more moisture than cotton and quickly releases it back into the outside air, as its surface is water repellent. Thus, unlike cotton, it does not feel wet. Additionally wool neutralizes acids which are transpired with sweat.

Consequently, microorganisms can’t multiply or even survive and do not form bad odors.
