How to protect your skin from the sun and from aging | Preventing wrinkles

Smiling lines are beautiful. But it is ok not to want them before your 40s

It’s the sun that causes wrinkles

Only certain cells in the lower layer of the skin divide and form new skin cells (= epidermal stem cells), that replace the old cells. All other cells only live for a few weeks.

As long as this process works properly, the skin looks smooth and youthful.

For matured skin and skin damaged by the sun the divisibility of stem cells is affected. It has been damaged by sun rays; thus, they produce less new cells, that would usually plump up your skin tissue.

Wrinkles are formed as a result. Once wrinkles are formed, they can no longer be reversed, only reduced.

The natural aging process is inevitable. However, the formation of wrinkles can be delayed by protecting the skin from sunlight!

The right sun protection is crucial. But looking for the perfect sunscreen can be exhausting. Basically, there are two types of sunscreens.

Organic | Chemical

The term organic refers to the carbon compounds used in this type of sunscreen. They absorb damaging sunlight and convert the rays into thermal energy.

The rays are therefore trapped inside the skin and can no longer harm the skin cells.

Drawback: Since the soluble compounds must first be absorbed by the skin into the deeper layers, the radiation protection is only effective after approx. 30 min.

Additionally, these chemical UV filters have an irritating effect on the skin, which can cause blemishes and rashes.

Drawback: Some of these organic compounds, which enter the ocean by the ton!!! each year, are very harmful to coral reefs.

Why are organic filters used?

As mentioned above, the substances are soluble and therefore absorbed by the skin.

This means that no film remains on the skin surface, which many find annoying. That’s a plus.

Physical | Mineral

Physical UV filters (e.g., zinc oxides) consist of tiny mineral salts that do not dissolve and remain on the skin surface. They reflect incoming sun rays so that they do not penetrate the skin in the first place.

A plus: It works immediately.

The film-forming particles left on the skin are hardly noticeable with good products, since the particle sizes are extremely small.

There are so many expensive products that are not worth the money. They usually contain some exclusive additives that offer little value, at least not in terms of sun protection.

It’s much more worthwhile to invest in a good moisturizer instead.

In the morning routine, everything is then combined:  First apply the moisturizer so that it can be absorbed. Then the sunscreen and finally your make-up.

Very good sun protection for daily use (and without leaving an oily film on the skin) is provided by the following three organic products (only available in the EU):

  • SunDance 30 Sensitive Sonnenbalsam SPF 30
  • Garnier Ambre Solaire Hydra 24h SPF 30
  • Ladival Sonnengel für allergische Haut SPF 50

Sunscreen should ALWAYS be worn, even in winter. Because if it is bright, there is also sun.

SPF 30 is perfectly adequate for daily use. The products can be optimally distributed by the light texture and combined with other cosmetics

For stronger UV radiation, you should use a sunscreen with a higher SPF.

In general, the higher the SPF, the better.
