Why algae should be part of your daily skincare routine | Efficient antioxidants in algae

“ Glibbery, green and so efficient!”

Algae are green or red organisms that produce oxygen and are found in both freshwater and marine environments. They store an extremely high number of mineral salts and bioactive molecules that include vitamins, polysaccharides, alpha-lipoic acid and phosphatidylcholine. Their nutrient density is much higher than that of normal plants, bringing enormous added value to skin care.

Incredients:

Minerals:  potassium, sodium and magnesium

Essential for cell water regulation.

Vitamin A

Keeps the structure of skin cells stable.

Vitamin C

Stimulates the creation of collagen.

Vitamin E

Effective antioxidant + lightening effect on pigment spots

Alpha lipoic acid

One of the most powerful naturally occurring antioxidants. Unlike other antioxidants, it is also both water and fat soluble. This makes it pass through not only the skin barrier, but also cell membranes.

Phosphatidylcholines

Occurs naturally in humans as an important component of the cell membrane. Thus, it is very well absorbed by our skin and can penetrate the deep layers of the skin.

A huge benefit is that it carries other active ingredients with it and distributes them optimally in the skin.

Polysaccharides

The various polysaccharides absorb water, store it, and thus contribute to the skin’s moisture retention.

An example of a very rich algae used in luxury products is the purple red algae Porphyridium cruentum. Its natural habitat is waters with high salinity such as the Northwest Atlantic.

The substances it contains are highly moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and have a lightening effect on pigment spots.
