Healthy drink to make at home | How to stay healthy and focused with rosemary

The evergreen mediterranean plant named „dew of the sea“ is an incredible benefit for your wellbeing.

Thr origin of its effect lies in its essential oils.

Rosemary has an intense, spicy arome. Fresh it also reminds me of pine needles. When dried rosemary smells resinious.

For health purpose it is best to use rosemary oil or rosemary tea. Both can be used topically as well as be consumed.

I prefer the tea, as I always have some fresh rosmary at home. This way I can have a healthy homemade drink whenever I want. Howewer the oil contains more essential oil and may be more effective.

In the following article I will show you what health effects you can expect from rosemary. Below you will find a simple recipe.

1. Herbal tea for weight loss

During digestion, all food components are crushed to smaller pieces in different parts of your digestive system.

For this process the body uses enzymes. The small intestine then absorbs all the nutrients the body usually needs.

But the body can not conrol the amount of nutrients it absorbs, so even if we have had enough sugar or fat, the body does not care. And we gain weight.

Rosemary tea is the perfect weight loss drink.

The essential oils slow down the enzymes that are responsible for splitting fats, which means that these can no longer be absorbed by our body.

As a consequence weight gain is lowered as well as blood glucose and cholesterol levels.

2.Rosemary tea is a calm down drink that improves your mood

Especially in the evening, when I feel really stressed and emotionally exhausted, rosemary makes me calm down. It warms me up from the inside-out.

Breathing is getting easier and my racing heart relaxes. This way it helps me fall asleep more quickly and I am well rested the following day.

On the contrary, when I wake up tired and drowsy, not ready to start the day but forced to as I have a job to do, rosmary helps me to get the needed energy.

A cold rosemary-tea with fresh lemon and honey makes me feel fresher and more active.

This effext on your mood is not just a personal experience.

Northumbria University has published several studies that show the positive impact on mood and nervous system by the use of rosemary essential oils.

As well, it was examined how rosemary positively affects concetration.

Rosmemary has a supportive impact on brain performance and memory.

3.Best drink for concentration and focus

The intake of rosemary essential oils help you memorizing better. It also increases the speed of your thinking.

When you have a mentally demanding job or concentration problems in general, you should definetely give rosemary tea a try.

If your child can’t concetrate in class or has anxiety about school, rosemary tea could help.

This is something I always reccomend to my own students, especially for situations like presenting before class.

You don’t need to use it long term, as the positive effect comes fast.

As the nervous system is stimulated, rosemary may cause help even regarding sersious mental deseases like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson. This is currently to be further investigated.

Howewer, there is a personal story I would like to share with you.

When my grandma had suffered from a stroke, her ability to talk was like non-existent anymore. The doctors unforutnately showed no real interest in changing that- as they had to focus with their available capacities on younger people.

Well, my mum did not give up. She took my grandma home and cared for her. She made rosmary tea forher everyday. And very soon we started seeing improvement.

My grandma is able to talk again. Nothing compared to like she was before, but communication is possible. I am not saying that this is because of the rosemary, but it feels like it was. Please note that this is no medical advise.

4.A drink for heart health

Rosemary essential oils have a positive effect on the circulatory system. Easy said it has a blood thinning effect.

This way, it can cure minor to major headaches. In traditional chinese medicine (TCM) rosemary is commonly used.

As well, the essential oils contained have an antithrombotic effect. This was confirmed during a japanese study.

Because of the effect on blood circulation, rosemary should not be taken during pregnancy, heavy menstruation and high blood pressure.

5.Herbal tea recipe

No matter what kind of fresh herb you use, the preparation is mostly the same.

  • Rinse herb leaves under cool running water, turning constantly until thoroughly clean.
  • Do use boiling water to pour over your herb. In some cases, germs such as bacteria, yeasts or moulds may be present in the plant products. Also a cup of tea made with boiling water will taste stronger.
  • Fresh herbal tea can steep 5-15 minutes. If you want to steep it for a longer time, that is also ok. It will taste more intese.
  • If you are not used to herbal tea, you may not like the taste at first as it might taste bitterly. So add some honey and lemon and you will definetely love it.
