Vitamin C, along with sunscreen, is one of the most effective ways to protect your skin from wrinkles and keep it young and healthy.

1.What are the benefits of Vitamin C?
It’s pretty simple, because it only does three things and does them very well.
- Vitamin C is tiny and dissolves in water.
- Vitamin C is anti-aging.
- Vitamin C corrects hyperpigmentation.
Lets’t get a closer look on these points.
Vitamin C is tiny and dissolves in water.
Why does this matter? Well, it can easily penetrate the skin barrier and reach the deep layers of the skin where it can do its work.
This allows the skin to be treated as a whole and not just on the top. This is why whou will not be dissappointed as you might be with other substances, that only work on the surface.

However, you have to pay attention to the small print.
Vitamin C is only able to penetrate the skin barrier when applied under acidic conditions. The exact pH is 3.5. So a lotion or serum must match this pH value for vitamin C to reach deeper skin layers.
This acidic property can cause skin irritations if you have very sensitive skin.

Water is the most natural solvent there is. Your skin is also largely made of water.
To use vitamin C, you don’t have to use heavy oils as a carrier in your cosmetics that clog your pores. You can use water-based care products that feel very light and fresh.
Vitamin C is anti-aging.
It’s a very effective antioxidant because it binds harmful particles that would otherwise destroy your cells and cause wrinkles as a result.
The more healthy cells you have, the healthier and younger your skin looks.
As these particles (radicals) are mainly created by UV-radiation, you need to apply vitamin C on a daily basis.
Vitamin C corrects hyperpigmentation.
Vitamin C inhibits the formation of dark skin pigments (melanin). Thus less age spots will appear.
However, melanin is our skin’s own protection against UV rays.
Therefore my educated guess would be, that you should not use vitamin C without sunscreet on top. Plus, you’ll have to do without a facial tan.
2.What to look for when choosing vitamin C products?
When choosing your care products, make sure that vitamin C is present in larger quantities.
Often brands advertise on the packaging that vitamin C is included, but only when you read the small print do you realize that it is just very little.
Then it makes no sense to spend money on it, because the effect will hardly be noticeable.Even with expensive, well-known brands, the actual active ingredient content only appears in the small print.
That is disappointing, since I want know what I spent my money for. And I want results.
I recommend choosing products that contain a concentration of 10 up to a maximum 20 % vitamin C. Studies show that the best effect can be expected here.
In general, you can say that a lot helps a lot, but you also have to be careful.
Vitamin C is acidic. Not only the substance itself, but as mentioned above the medium needs to be at a pH of 3.5.
You should definetely test your chosen product before buying it, as it might be irritating your skin.In any case, you should not use it directly after a face scrub.
3.Is Vitamin C vegan?
Yes, it is.
Vitamin C is a natural substance that is mainly found in plant fruits, i.e. fruits and vegetables.
However, it is produced artificially in large quantities for use in food and cosmetics, mainly in Switzerland and China.
No worries, there is no difference
between the natural and the synthetically produced vitamin C.
4. A diet rich in Vitamin C is essential.
What happens if your body lacks vitamin C?
If you don’t eat enaugh food containing this essential vitamin, your body will tell you.
You feel weak and you get tired quickly. Your skin is pale and greyish.
In the case of a large deficiency, unusual bleeding may also occur in the subcutaneous tissue. You will get bruises more quickly. Bleeding gums is a symptom when your Vitamin C lack is quite severe. In the worst case, they develop scurvy.
You need to eat a lot of vitamin C.
Your body can neither produce nor store vitamin C itself. Therefore it is very important to eat vitamin c rich food regularly.
It’s best to choose two or three fruit types that you really like. Then make them part of your daily routine. Routines are always easier to maintain.
Some fruits are better used as juice. Buckthorn and rose hips in particular are extremely rich in vitamin C, but I haven’t seen them for sale anywhere.
The juice, however, is available almost in every large supermarket.
| Fruit type | Amount of Vitamin C in mg per 100 g |
| Buckthorn | 200-900 |
| Rose hips | 400 -5000 |
| Citrus fruits | 40 -100 |
| Apples | 6 |
Isn’t it interesting that somehow, when thinking about vitamin C, it is oranges or lemons that come to our mind?
Yet these citrus fruits do not contain that much of it.
5.Are vitamin C supplements worth it?
It depends on your regular diet. If you are able to maintain a healthy lifestyle and eath fruits high in vitamin C several times a day, there is no need to add supplements.
But if, for example, you don’t like these very vitamin-rich fruits, it makes sense to cover your daily needs with food supplements.
Be aware that your body can only absorb about 200 mg of vitamin C per day. Everything above this amount is flushed down the toilet.
Example:
| High dose Vitamin C capsule containing 1000 mg | Your body absorbs 200 mg | You are waisting 800 mg |
An overdose is actually not possible, as your body does not absorb it any more. It may cause digestive probles though.
6.Dark eye circle treatment.
Dark circles under your eyes, may be a sign that your body lacks iron.
Now, what is the connection to vitamin C?
Vitamin C and iron are lovers. Iron does not work without vitamin C. Your body will only absorb iron if vitamin C is present.
So what you need to do, is that you consume food rich in iron or iron supplements TOGETHER with the vitamin.
It will not work if you eat vitamin C rich in the morning and iron rich in the evening. The substances are then not in the same place in the gut and do not come together.
You really need to take them at the same time.
