People in the Middle Ages were selling mermaid tears potion promising eternal youth, beauty and health.
And because people are people, they still want to sell useless potions to you even 500 years later. Only that the mermaid tears in modern times have a different name.
A name that makes you believe that they are actually serious, effective substances. Today it is called homeopathy.

I am not saying that alternative healing methods do not work. Some actually may have a great benefit.
But homeopathy is not a healing method. It is HOKUS POKUS.
What does homeopathy do? Let’s get a closer look.
- Is homeopathy scienfifically approved?
- Homeopathic ingredients and their complicated names
- How much of an ingredient is contained?
- The hocus pocus effect in homeopathy
- 5.Why is homepathy legal?
1.Is homeopathy scientifically approved?
Fact: There is no scientific evidence for homeopathic preparation to be working from a medical point of view. Why is that?
The simple reason is that you cannot prove anything scientifically, that contradicts the rules of chemistry and physics as well as any logic.
This is just how our universe works.

It is against the laws of nature that one makes objects disappear or appear. Unfortunalely the world of Harry Potter is not reality.
2. Homeopathic ingredients and their complicated names
First of all, a common mistakte many do :
Homeopathy is not a synonym for a botanical drug.
Botanical drugs contain active incrediants of botanical origin. Botanical drugs are clinically prooved.
Homeopathic preparatios are not necessarily herbal, nor do they show clinically proven efficacy.

Advertising confuses with complex sounding terms.
The most simple words can be translated into Latin. We trust this language, as Latin is known as the language of science.
And any word, however banal, suddenly sounds enormously important.
Example:
| Latin | Translation in sense | Chemical | Colloquial |
| Natrium muriaticum | Salt agains grief | sodium chloride | Table salt |
Natrium muriaticum or table salt is a very common homeopathic incredient.
You see, this is actually very close to the mermaid tears mentioned above.

The table salt from your kitchen is sold as a cure. Table salt, which you already use every day, not only with food, but also with mineral water.
And that’s what you’re supposed to buy now. For a lot, really a lot of money.
Yes, it is true that our body cells need salt to survive, but it has absolutely no healing effect.
Of course there are many different homeopathic preparations with different ingredients.
3.How much of an ingredient is contained?
In fact, the products contain practically NOTHING of it.This can be read in capital letters on the packaging. But you need to know how to read it.
Unfortunately, maths and chemistry have been the favorite school subjects of very few of us.
This time it is really not complicated. You just need to remember three things.
1. Potentiation is NOT an increase in the effectiveness.
Potentation says that an incredient is diluted in water or alcohol or mixed with sugar.

I will illustrate this with a simple experiment you can copy at home.
Take a glass with red juice.
Now you pour a small part of the juice (1/10) into a second glass and fill it up with water. Now in the second glass you have 1 part of juice and 9 parts of water. A dilution of 1:10.

You see, the liquid in the second glass is clearly lighter. And will not taste really juicy anymore.
You do exactly the same with the third glass e.t.c. The liquid gets lighter with each dilution. From glass to glass there is much less juice.
Obviously, you have diluted the juice. In homeopathy one would say you have potentiated. How that?
2. It’s all about maths.
What normal people see: The dilution is 1:10
What a mathematician sees: 1:10 = 10-1
The small number is called potentation.
Do you see where this is going? When we speak of potentiation in homeopathy, we mean that an original substance, such as red juice, has been diluted by a certain value.
Homeopathic dilution:
| Symbol | Dilution /Potentiation | Dilution in whole numbers |
| 1D | 10-1 | 1:10 |
| 2D | 10-2 | 1:100 |
| 3D | 10-3 | 1:1000 |
| 6D | 10-6 | 1:1000000 |
| 12D | 10-12 | 1:1000000000000 |
| 24 D | 10-24 | 1:1000000000000000000000000 |
Imagine how little of a given ingredient is actually contained at 24D for example. Maybe 2-3 particles– if at all. You can compare it to a drop in the Pacific Ocean.

For comparison: A pinch of table salt (1g) contains 102 300 000 000 000 000 000 00 salt particles (NaCl).
In fact, there are so many different substances dissolved in the Pacific Ocean that the ocean contains a significantly higher concentration of said ingredients than the homeopathic preparation itself.
3.The vast majority of homeopathic ingredients are found everywhere in nature anyway.
The reality is this.
Your body is made up of specific molecules, mineral salts and metallic elements.
You consume water and solid food every day, which are also made of specific molecules and mineral salts and metallic elements
Our whole living world is constructed this way.
Therefore, you can be sure that somewhere in your body or your food there are also the exact same molecule types that are used as ingredients in homeopathic products.
So if you take a homeopathic product of a certain dilution, you change the amount of particles present as soon as it touches your lips.

If there is so little substance, where should the effect come from?
The homeopathic explanation contradicts all logic.
4.The hocus pocus effect in homeopathy
Can we agree that if we throw a cat to a bunch of dogs, there will still be a cat and a bunch of dogs at the end?

In homeopathy, however, the whole looks like this:
If we throw a cat into a bunch of dogs, all the dogs become cats.

Regarding diluted substances it would mean, one particle transfers its properties to many other particles in our body.
And that is just not possible.
Why do people believe it works?
People are people. People had been believing in mermaid tears potions for hundreds of years. Because they want to believe.
Indeed, studies prove that the belief in an effect alone can actually cause the desired effect to occur.
It can therefore happen that a physical change occurs even without the active ingredient contained.
This effect is called the placebo effect.
Basically, this effect may offer advantages. For example, it prevents the excessive and sometimes unnecessary use of drugs.
However, you should ask yourself how responsible it is to use placebos.
Also, you should ask yourself if you want to be one of those people who spend a fortune on products not containing any active incrediant.
For you are then no better than the man in the Middle Ages who bought mermaid tear potion.
5.Why is homepathy legal?
Homeopathic products are not harmful themselves, as they do not contain any active incrediants in significant quantity.
But they may cause damage, if you try to cure a serious desease and do without conventional clinically proven drugs.
It is not forbidden to sell water, alcohol or sugar. Homeopathic products are based on these substances.
And they do not contain any active incredient except for a few molecules. So why should it be forbidden?
The responsibility lies with everyone to decide for themselves.
You get to decide for yourself whether to see a doctor, take medication, or just do nothing.
This freedom of the individual is established by law.
However, I personally think it is questionable and morally not o.k. to sell potions to people seeking help in this day and age.
