On my latest visit home, a friend suggested visiting a mud bath.
Although it is right next to my hometown, I honestly had no idea that it existed.
That’s probably because you can only find it if you know where to go. Signposts were not existent – although my friend knows the place we got lost several times. In the middle of the forest, but every road looks the same.
After we had arrived at the right place it was pure idyll !!
There were two mud baths to choose from. One was a thick, viscous brown mass. Most people go in naked, which is pretty normal in Germany. I left my bikini on (My brother was with me, so this would have been quite weird), but you may never be able to use it afterwards.

The second mud bath contains much more water, so you can almost swim in it. But it’s not nearly as much fun. After some overcoming we relaxed in the mud.
Usually, the mud should be warm, because that’s what makes it serve health purposes in the first place.
This one was rather cool, but we liked it as the outside temperature had been 35°C (95 °F) for several days.
The only thing I can say about the smell is that it smelled like mud does.

We sat in there for about a quarter of an hour. We enjoyed the fresh air, the peace of the forest and the nice company.
Indeed, it’s fun to chat with naked strangers on their holidays in a mud hole in the woods.
This experience alone was definitely worth it. After the mud bath you have to get rid of all the dirt.
For this purpose, there is a shower with ice-cold spring water right next to it. Not one of the guys present managed to use it without screaming.
The positive thing is: cold showers are very good for the cardiovascular system.

But you could warm up in a bathing pond right afterwards. Since the pond is not particularly deep (even in the middle, the water went up to my chest, and I’m not particularly tall) the sun warms it up quickly.
By the way, dogs were allowed. I didn’t see anyone taking them to the mud bath – I imagine that would be very difficult. But bathing in the pond was not a problem.
It was only asked that you do not let the dog directly next to other guests in the water.
Oh, did I mention that the entrance was also free?
According to my research, there are no health benefits of mud baths proven by studies. In the spa, the heated mud warms you from the inside, which is simply relaxing.
I know there are sulfurous bogs that are great for your skin, but you need to stand the smell.
But it was a beautiful day. We met nice people and had a lot of fun.
